Tackling the Common Cold

What is a cold?

The common cold is caused by a virus. Germs from someone who is infected can live on hands and surfaces for 24 hours1. While people feel unwell with a cold, it is generally something that will pass, but that doesn’t make it any more pleasant to deal with while you’re struggling with symptoms.

Symptoms of a cold include:

  • A blocked or runny nose
  • Headaches
  • Sneezing
  • A sore throat
  • Loss of taste or smell
  • Body aches
  • Temperature
  • Pressure around your ears and face

There is no cure for the cold, nor will medications such as antibiotics treat it, as it is a virus; however, there are ways of relieving the symptoms – this includes nasal sprays.

Which Otrivine nasal spray should I use for congestion and how does it work?

For congestion you could try Otrivine Blocked Nose Relief Nasal Spray. It gets to work within 2 minutes as the xylometazoline hydrochloride opens up the nasal passage while helping to clear your nose and reduce nasal mucus.

Taking action against congestion

What is Congestion?

Nasal congestion is when tissues and blood vessels within the nose become swollen, causing what we call a stuffy nose which sometimes comes with a runny nose, too.2

What Otrivine nasal decongestant spray should I use?

To beat congestion while on the go we recommend the Otrivine Congestion Relief Nasal Spray. The sprays active ingredient xylometazoline hydrochloride works to narrow the nasal blood vessels, opening up the nasal passages and getting to work within 2 minutes. The ingredient, levomenthol provides an immediate fresh sensation.

Help stop Hay Fever from ruining your summer

What is hay fever?

Hay fever, also known as seasonal allergic rhinitis, is when someone has an allergic reaction to pollen, a fine powder from plants.

As the pollen count rises, particularly between late March and September3, symptoms include:

  • Sneezing
  • Coughing
  • Itchy or watery eyes
  • Blocked or runny nose
  • Headaches
  • A sore throat

It is thought that as many as 49% of people in the UK suffer from hay fever symptoms4, and while there is no cure, using a nasal decongestant can help.

What Otrivine nasal spray should be used for hay fever?

For nasal congestion caused by hay fever we recommend the Otrivine Allergy Relief Nasal Spray. The spray provides congestion relief within 2 minutes, as the active ingredient xylometazoline hydrochloride helps to open and clear the nasal passages by reducing nasal mucus and reducing the swelling of blood vessels to their normal size.

Getting Relief from Sinusitis

What is sinusitis?

Sinusitis is a swelling of the sinuses which is common after a cold or the flu5 leading to a range of symptoms such as:

  • Pain, swelling and tenderness around your cheeks and face
  • A blocked nose
  • Reduced sense of smell
  • Green or yellow mucus from your nose
  • Bad breath
  • Sinus headache
  • Toothache

As well as resting, fluids and more, a nasal decongestant for sinusitis can help to relieve symptoms and help you breathe your best.

What Otrivine Nasal Spray should be used for Sinusitis?

For nasal congestion, we recommend Otrivine Sinusitis Relief Nasal Spray. The spray delivers an exact medicated dose of xylometazoline hydrochloride inside the nostril to relieve the nasal congestion as well as helping to ease the sinusitis pain and pressure that you may be feeling.

Otrivine Nasal Spray FAQs

What can be done to reduce hay fever symptoms?

While there is no cure for hay fever, in addition to using a nasal spray there are other ways you can ease symptoms if you’re suffering. These include:

  • Putting Vaseline around your nostrils to trap pollen
  • Get some wraparound sunglasses to stop pollen getting into your eyes
  • Shower and change when you get home to wash off pollen
  • Keep windows and doors shut
  • Vacuum and dust regularly
  • Stay at home where possible
  • If you’re going out in the car, purchase a pollen filter that will work in the air vents as well as vacuuming7

How Do Otrivine Medicated Nasal Sprays Work?

Once inserted and sprayed, the active ingredient gets to work by constricting the blood vessels which become larger as a result of cold, flu or allergies.

Once the vessels and tissue settles down you should have an easier time breathing.

How Long Should Nasal Sprays Be Used For?

Most decongestant nasal sprays should not be used longer than a week at a time, overusing them can cause stuffiness rather than relief. Please read the label for the relevant product to understand how long they can be used for. If you’re still struggling with symptoms after a week, contact your doctor.8
